Natural Way to Reduce Side Effects of Pregnancy

There are many natural remedies during pregnancy you can use to help mitigate some of the more common side effects or complaints of pregnancy. Keep in mind however that just because something is natural does not always suggest it is safe. There are many herbs and other natural products that are best avoided during pregnancy. As with anything you should always check in with your doctor before trying any natural remedy during pregnancy.

Morning Sickness
Morning sickness is a common complaint during pregnancy, especially during the first trimester. Fortunately there are many natural steps you can take to help reduce morning sickness and nausea. Many women feel more nauseated when their stomachs are empty. That is why the term 'morning sickness' is so popular, as most women wake up with an empty stomach and feel nauseous. Morning sickness can however strike at any time of day.

One way to help keep nausea at bay is to keep some crackers and water near your bed. Try munching a few before your get up in the morning. This can help ease morning sickness and help you feel your best during the day.

Some women find that taking 50 mg of vitamin B6 during the day helps ease nausea. Check in with your doctor before trying this to make sure it is okay. There are also over the counter products called sea bands that you can place on your wrists to help with nausea. These rubber bands help massage acupressure points in the wrist. You can get these online or at your local pharmacy. Other women find a little ginger tea helps quell nausea during the day.

Pregnancy Heartburn

Heartburn is another common side effect of pregnancy. There are many reasons for heartburn during pregnancy. For one our bodies release extra hormones during pregnancy, which can soften the sphincter between the stomach and esophagus. This sometimes allows stomach acids to rise up into the esophagus. The growing pressure your uterus places on your stomach may also contribute to heartburn.

The best way to prevent heartburn is to eat several small meals during the day. You should avoid spicy foods or fatty foods that can contribute to heartburn and nausea. Some women find that diary products help combat heartburn. In most cases it is also safe to try a Tums or two during pregnancy to help relieve heartburn. If you frequently experience heartburn during the evenings, try to avoid laying down for at least one hour after eating. This will give your stomach time to digest your food.

Constipation During Pregnancy

Constipation is another common side effect of pregnancy. Constipation often also results from hormonal changes during pregnancy. Some women experience more constipation resulting from the increased iron in their diet during pregnancy. Fortunately as with nausea and heartburn there are a number of natural steps you can take to reduce constipation.

The most important step toward reducing constipation is drinking enough water during pregnancy. Water helps keep things moving during pregnancy. Too much constipation can result in hemorrhoids or varicose veins in the rectum during pregnancy, which is a very uncomfortable conditions!

Certain foods can help reduce your risk of constipation including high fiber foods like fruits and vegetables. Some women find that prune juice or eating whole prunes helps eliminate constipation easily and effectively. Others find that exercise can help stimulate the bowels and keep constipation at baby.

Colds During Pregnancy

Colds are quite common during pregnancy. Pregnant women tend to be more susceptible as their immune systems are lowered and their mucous membranes tend to swell during pregnancy. This can make breathing easy a challenge. Your best measure for treating colds is preventing them from happening. This means religiously washing your hands, eating a healthy diet and getting as much rest as possible.

If you do catch a cold you can increase your consumption of vitamin C rich foods including fruits and fruit juices. Many women find that eating foods high in garlic can help reduce the length of their cold. Sipping teas including lemon and honey tea can help alleviate a sore and uncomfortable throat. If you have trouble breathing at night try using a humidifier to help create more moisture in your atmosphere. This can reduce nasal irritation and help breathe more easily.
