Most women begin trying to conceive sometime during
pregnancy week 2. By week 2 of your menstrual cycle, the odds are high you are no longer bleeding. If you are don't panic. Many women experience light bleeding or spotting and still conceive. There is a myth you cannot conceive while you are on your period. You certainly can if the environment is right and you ovulate early.
While you will not know if you are pregnant for at least a couple more weeks if you do conceive, you can start monitoring your body during the second week of pregnancy for changes. Most women take some time long before they get pregnant to track their bodies changes throughout the menstrual cycle. This will help you when trying to conceive. You can get to know the average length of your cycles, the range of days in your cycle when you are most likely to ovulate, and when you can expect your menses. All of these affect your fertility.
The more aware you are of the changes in your body, the better prepared you are to conceive a baby.
One of the most important changes to notice is ovulation, when your body releases an egg for fertilization. Many changes suggest you are preparing to release an egg. When your body releases an egg, an event that occurs during ovulation, you may become pregnant. To become pregnant, your partner's sperm must enter the cervix, swim through the fallopian tubes until he or she reaches the egg. Then (usually) one lucky sperm penetrates the egg.
This happens after ovulation. Changes that you may notice in your body during pregnancy week 2 may include a cessation of bleeding, especially if you have a history of bleeding for several days during your menses. Your body is gearing up by producing varying amounts of estrogen and progesterone.
Many women notice changes in their cervical mucous during pregnancy weeks 2 and pregnancy week 3. Cervical mucous is a conductor, one that allows sperm to travel inside the body and survive between two and five days, until your body releases an egg during ovulation. The more fertile your cervical mucous, the more likely you are to conceive.
Fertile cervical mucous is long, stretchy and feels much like egg whites. To check your cervical mucous, first make sure you have clean hands. You can then rub your finger just inside the vulva. You may notice many different types of mucous during different times of your cycle.
- Dry - if you don't notice much cervical mucous, you are probably not yet fertile.
- Sticky - sticky mucous is common during the first weeks of pregnancy.
- Creamy - some women notice their cervical mucous is creamy or has the consistency of lotion near or just after ovulation.
- Watery - watery mucous is usually fertile and resembles egg white cervical mucous.
- Egg White - cervical mucous that is clear or slightly tinged and stretchable is the most fertile mucous, capable of enabling sperm to survive for several days as you await ovulation. If you pull your fingers apart, you should be able to see the cervical mucous stretch about one inch, suggesting ovulation is near.
You can also check your cervical mucous by wiping and observing your mucous on tissue paper. Try not to become too compulsive however, about checking your cervical mucous. Many factors including how well hydrated you are can affect the quantity and quality of your cervical mucous.
During week 2 of pregnancy you can have intercourse as often as you like if trying to get pregnant. Be sure you avoid using traditional lubricants because they can actually destroy sperm. There are some lubricants available that do not contain toxic ingredients and are sperm friendly, including Preseed.
Make sure you get plenty of rest during these early stages of pregnancy. Stress resulting from lack of sleep sometimes results in late ovulation or problems conceiving.
**Tip - During the early weeks of pregnancy, take some time to relax and enjoy your partner. Go on a date, dress in sexy lingerie and let nature take its course. The more focused on pleasure and relaxation you and your partner are, the better your chances to conceive. Remember everything about getting pregnant is fun, including the time you spend trying to become pregnant.
