Exercise.
It lowers stress levels, enables the body to deal with emotional and physical changes quicker and better, and improves your overall health (which can improve your emotional health). If you haven't figured out by now that I am a big fan of exercise during pregnancy, here's one more chance. Exercise is good for you - body, mind, and soul.
Hit the gym, take a walk, go for a swim...just get moving. Get that heart rate up for twenty or more minutes at least three times a week by participating in pregnancy safe exercise.
It's good for baby, it's good for you, and it's good for those who care about you. Encourage your loved ones to work out with you. Their stress levels and health will improve along with yours, leaving everyone even more ready to care for baby when he arrives!
Eat right.
A healthy diet obviously benefits your physical health, but did you know it's helpful in maintaining emotional health, as well? As if baby wasn't enough motivation to eat right, emotional healthy is one more reason to cut out the processed foods, increase the intake of whole grains, choose leaner meats, and fortify yourself with fresh fruits and vegetables.
If you are not getting the proper nutrition, you're more likely to be cranky. Let's reserve crankiness for the baby! In the beginning of your pregnancy, you may find that the transition to a caffeine free diet leaves you edgy. Later, those who crave foods high in sugar may find the associated sugar rushes hard to manage. High sodium diets bring the potential for higher blood pressure, a mood destabilizer for sure.
Making positive food choices isn't really a luxury; it's a necessity for a healthy pregnancy.
Eating healthy throughout the day helps you maintain your blood sugar, keeps you from feeling too hungry at vulnerable times of day, and keeps your energy levels consistent. That's a recipe for stable moods if I've ever heard one.
