What is “ergonomic” and what is it doing on my pillow?
Don’t worry, it’s a good thing. Really! Ergonomic is a term that evolved along with improvements in technology – specifically, improving situations and products to complement the human body, such as the
pregnancy pillows and ergonomic body pillows. Proponents define it as “fitting the task or tool to the human.” Ergonomics started in the workplace - with lumbar support chairs and special curvy computer keyboards – in an effort to cut down on work-related medical issues like repetitive motion injuries, posture-related stresses to the body and fatigue.
Ergonomic technology has come a long way and has advanced the design of pregnancy pillows and body pillows. It's moved into clothing, classrooms and now your bedroom. So, what is an ergonomic pillow? Well, it's a pillow designed to fit to and complement your body. Traditional, standard bed pillows provide support for your head and neck, but they don’t provide the right support, and they don’t provide support any place else.
Your present pillow is probably not “fitting …the human” who uses it, namely you. And if you’re like most people, you think it’s a question of quantity, not quality. You just keep adding pillows. A pillow or two for your head. Add to that the pretty pillow used to prop yourself up to watch television, read your mystery or magazine or to work on your laptop. (Note to self. Laptops do not make good bed partners. If your work isn’t finished by the time you turn in, it should wait until you’re thinking more clearly in the morning. Laptops in bed are not ergonomically sound).
Adding pillow after pillow is not going to work. They’re not going to give you enough support in enough places. And besides, pillows shift at night. You'll find yourself herding them back into position at 2 AM., again at 4 AM. and again five minutes before the alarm goes off in the morning. Waking up three times a night (or more) to arrange your sleep “support system” is not conducive to healthy, restorative sleep. And restoration is the whole point! Cut back on the number of pillows crowding your bed. There are too many, and they don’t fit your body anyway.
So, it must be a quality issue - even if you bought the best pillow you could find at your favorite department store. It’s not the price or the filling. It's a question of contour, a question of fit. The traditional pillow doesn’t contour to your body. It doesn’t fit you, and therefore can't provide the muscle and skeletal support you need to make the most of your sleep.
An ergonomic pillow, ergonomic pregnancy pillow and
body pillow are ones that are made to complement the shape of the human body and support it in proper sleep positions, will change your life. You'll find that you fall asleep quicker, stay asleep longer, don't toss and turn and feel more rested in the morning. During the day, you’ll find that the aches and pains you’ve grown to accept as a normal part of life are lessened, or are gone altogether.
Who benefits from the use of ergonomic pillows,
ergonomic pregnancy pillows and body pillows?
People who spend long periods of time sitting at a desk;
People who stand or walk excessively at work;
Pregnant Women;
Restless Sleepers;
Back Pain Sufferers;
Headache Sufferers;
Hip Pain Sufferers;
Anyone with poor circulation.
You can also add athletes, children, people under stress, arthritics, people who toss and turn at night and anyone who enjoys being comfortable.
Do you see yourself anywhere on that list?
The truth is, everyone benefits from sleeping on an ergonomically designed pillow. Think about it. A pillow that is designed to support you. Designed to help you get the sleep you need. A pillow that's designed to improve your life, that's “fit” to your body. The Snoozer body pillow and pregnancy pillow are pillows unlike any other. The Upper Body model is contoured to complement the curves of your head, neck, and back. The Full Body pillow supports the head, neck, upper and lower back, as well as the hips and legs.
Now do you want one? Ask yourself that question tonight, after you’ve rearranged your mound of pillows for the fourth time, or after you wake up with a numb arm or foot and struggle to fall back to sleep. If ergonomics is important enough for workplace health, isn’t it important enough for your overall comfort and health? Don’t you deserve it? Of course you do!
