Expectant mothers have much to look forward to… the birth of their baby marks a momentous occasion that is unsurpassed by any other.

There is much to do to plan for baby however, prior to delivery. Most parents work on setting up their baby’s nursery in the months preceding delivery. The task of setting up your baby’s room may seem challenging. When broken down into steps however, preparing the baby’s nursery can be easy!

Step-by-Step Baby Prep During Pregnancy
There is nothing I look forward to more than setting up the baby’s nursery. There are several easy steps you can adopt when setting up your baby’s nursery.

  •  Decide how you would like to decorate your baby’s nursery. Many parents decide on a specific theme. This is up to you. One way to come up with ideas is by brainstorming. Simply take out a pen and paper and start writing down ideas.
  •  Decide on a crib for your baby’s nursery. Most parents find a crib with railers easily lowered are best for picking up and comforting baby in the middle of the night.
  •  Buy a firm mattress for the crib that fits tightly. You shouldn’t be able to fit more than a finger’s width or two between the crib mattress and railing.
  •  Decide whether you need a changing table. Most parents either buy a separate changing table or combine their baby’s dresser with a changing table.
  •  Consider a night light for your nursery. Using the overhead may prove too bright at night, but you’ll need some kind of light source to find your baby.
  •  Buy nursery supplies to stock your changing table. Some good choices include: diapers, wipes, baby lotion and onesies.

Tips for Decorating Your Nursery
Most people go for traditional when it comes to the colors they select for their baby’s nursery. Blue for boys… pink for girls.  This isn’t a necessity however, as there are plenty of other colors you can select from to help enhance the look and feel of your nursery. Some neat alternative colors include:

  •  Turquoise.
  •  Yellow or straw.
  •  Green or kiwi.
  •  Lemon.
  •  Violet.
  •  Lavender.

The colors and themes you decide on for your baby’s nursery can vary tremendously depending on your personal needs, wants and interests. Many parents prefer decorating the nursery with favorite photos, whether of the family or of their baby. You might also consider decorating the nursery with stuffed animals and other fun baby items.

Do I Need A Glider For My Baby’s Nursery?
A glider is not a must have item, but it certainly helps make life easier with a new baby. A glider differs from a rocking chair as it doesn’t have runners and often comes with more padding than a rocking chair. Many also recline, offering a comfortable option during sleepless nights when mom is up breastfeeding baby.

Fortunately today you can buy a glider rather inexpensively. There are many online retailers that offer gliders at a fraction of the cost of most department stores. I highly recommend a reclining glider if you can swing it, as this will allow you more opportunities to doze off at night.

One thing you should do is enlist the help of friends and family when setting up your baby’s nursery. You’ll find it is a lot easier to get the nursery ready for baby when you have a helping hand or two!
