By pregnancy week 27 your uterus will rise above your stomach reaching new heights. You may notice around 27 weeks pregnant and beyond you experience some uncomfortable pains just under your ribs, resulting from the close proximity of your ribs to your baby's arms or feet.
These symptoms are usually temporary. Sometimes you can encourage your baby to shift positions to relieve your discomfort. For example, during pregnancy weeks 27 and beyond you may consider gently rubbing your belly to encourage your baby to flip into a more comfortable position. Some women place headphones with soft music at various places on their pregnant belly to encourage their babies to move into a position that is more comfortable.
Are You Tired Yet?
Around pregnancy 27 weeks, as you approach pregnancy week 28 and beyond, you will start to notice you begin feeling fatigued. The fatigue you experience during the last few weeks of your second trimester and throughout your third trimester is very similar to the fatigue you experience in early pregnancy. Your body is working diligently now to prepare for the final weeks of pregnancy.
To help maintain your energy, remember to consume small nutrient packed meals throughout the day. Don't skimp on sleep during pregnancy weeks 27 and beyond, because you are going to need to rest up before you deliver your baby. Make sure you attempt to rest or nap if possible, even if it is only for 15 minutes, during the day while pregnant.
This will help recharge your batteries a bit when you find pregnancy fatigue kicks in again. Other women find exercise in the form of light walks during lunchtime at 27 weeks pregnant and beyond do wonders to help energize their bodies and reduce pregnancy fatigue.
Pregnant Peek a Boo
Around pregnancy week 27 and pregnancy week 28, your baby's retina matures more fully. This is an amazing event, because it means your baby can start seeing light. Some women notice when they are near light their babies are more active. You can try putting a flashlight near your baby to see if your baby moves (though don't do this often, you don't want to disrupt your babies natural waking and sleeping rhythms).
Speaking of rhythms, by pregnancy week 27 you should notice your baby engages in regular "routines" or periods of movement and rest for the day. Many babies are more active at night when you are trying to rest. You may find this challenging especially after birth when you find your baby has his or her days and nights reversed. This isn't cause for alarm however; you can easily help your baby "switch" gears by working toward keeping them energized during the day and toning everything down at night so they adjust to their new schedule.
